*Weekly Current Event topics will be posted both here and Canvas* Canvas Current Event Assignment Students will complete a bi-weekly current event assignment using the discussion board on Canvas. Mr. Egnot will provide a video and article from credible news resources and ask that you complete the Module writing prompts and turn in all work to Canvas upon completion. First part of the discussion session will ask students answer writing prompts about the video and the article provided. Part II of the current event assignment will ask the students to go on our discussion board and reply to TWO of their peers responses and talk about their opinions/summary of the current event. The articles will be related to the continent of study we are doing during the year. Students will be given the new article/video on our discussion board Friday mornings on the day the event is due. Again, this is a bi-weekly assignment so please look at your calendars to know the official due dates.
Part I: Summary of Video/Article (Formal 40pts) *Students will write a three paragraph summary of the current event. Students MUST use the video/article provided and summarize for the facilitator; your summary needs to include what is happening in the article, who is involved (countries, leaders, groups, etc..), and an organized and clear summary of the article/video. In addition, the last few sentences will be your personal opinion of the current event . Students need to include language arts/social studies vocabulary as part of the assignment. Please make sure the terms are highlighted in yellow before submitting final copy. Part II: Peer Response (Formal 10pts) *Students that have successfully posted their articles on Canvas Friday morning by 9:10am of the due date will be allowed to participate. Students will go on our classes discussion board and find TWO students and respond to what they wrote, positive criticism of their writing and to respond to their opinions. Each reply should be a full TWO sentences in length. Those students who do not have a current event post on Canvas will be completing a full page reflection page describing why they did not complete the assignment and this will be sent home in a scanned email. Students will have to notify the facilitator if the assignment will be turned in late and when officially it was posted on Canvas. The student will receive a 65% for late work turned in or a ZERO if never turned in. Reflective page will be due to the facilitator upon the completion of the peer response time in class. Students who do not fulfill the reflection piece will complete the rest during their healthy kids portion.
